Research project

The doctoral project is part of a longitudinal study of patients with longstanding eating disorders that were consecutively admitted to the specialized eating disorder unit at Modum Bad psychiatric hospital from 1998-2001. The patients have been assessed at admission, discharge, one year, two years and five years after treatment, and this project examines the status 17 years after inpatient treatment at Modum Bad. The evaluation consists of diagnostic interviews and self-report forms, focusing on eating disorders, personality disorders, other comorbid illnesses, as well as childhood trauma. The aim is to broaden the understanding of the long-term course for patients with severe and enduring eating disorders, and to examine predictors of outcome and different trajectories of change.

Research interests

Eating disorders among youth and adults, particularly the relationship to childhood trauma, personality disorders and general psychopathology. Long-term course and outcome, process research, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), compassion focused therapy (CFT) and family-based treatment (FBT). Family and relational problems.
