Research project
PhD Project: Studies indicate that patients respond differently to treatment. There is a potential for improvement in treatment outcomes if we gain more knowledge about the characteristics of patients who benefit from the treatments we offer, those who do not respond as well, and the methods we can use to allocate patients to the treatment approach they are most likely to benefit from. In this project, we will use data-driven methods to examine if we can enhance treatment outcomes. We will focus on the treatment of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and complex post-traumatic stress disorder (CPTSD). Based on patient information from a randomized controlled study conducted at the Department of Trauma Disorders and the Department of Anxiety Disorders, we will investigate predictors in patients related to their outcomes in different treatment approaches. We will then combine these predictors into a data-driven model. Subsequently, we will retrospectively test the model on completed treatment courses and examine if the treatment’s effectiveness in regular treatment courses would have been different if the recommendations from the model had been followed. We also aim to prospectively test the model’s utility by making this information available to clinicians making treatment choices.
